KOBB is an NBC-affiliated television station licensed to Bakersfield, California. It broadcasts a high definition signal on virtual channel 8 from a transmitter located atop Mount Adelaide. Owned by Central Broadcasting, KOBB is a sister-station to CW affiliate KTSE (channel 38), but operated by Dorado Media through a local marketing agreement (LMA), which makes them sister-stations to DBC affiliate KBKD (channel 3), and UDC affiliate KBKU (channel 11), which are wholly owned by Dorado Media. While KBKD and KBKU share studio facilities on East California Avenue near Edison Highway in Bakersfield, KOBB and KTSE share studio facilities on East Casa Loma Drive along Madison Street in Bakersfield.

History

Channel 8's first broadcast was launched on March 11, 1958, as an ABC affiliate. The station originally operated from studios along Stockdale Highway in Bakersfield. KOBB's daytime programming mainly consisted of classic sitcom reruns.

Joining NBC

In 1964, the ABC affiliation was moved to KBKR. When the switch took place, KOBB gained the NBC affiliation and the station re-branded to "NBC Channel 8."

On April 2017, KOBB and KTSE (The CW affiliate) was sold to Dorado Media as part of deal in which former owner AZBroadcasting filed for bankruptcy after its CEO stepped down from his position.

On November 20, 2017, the Dorado Station Services (the former owners of KBKD and KBKU) announced that they would turn over DBC and UDC owned-and-operated stations ranked below the top 99 television markets in the United States to Dorado Media. The company would continue to handle programming and promotional services. Dorado purchased the non-license assets of both KOBB and KTSE from AZBroadcasting and began operating them through a master service agreement with Central Broadcasting.

After KOBB's acquisition by Dorado, the station retired it's "KOBB NBC" logo in April 2017 and replaced it with a simplified logo.
