KVFD is MyTV affiliate that serves the Des Moines, IA area. It broadcasts on channel 21. It was one of two NBC affiliates that serves the Des Moines, IA area (The other one was KDES). The reason being was that it's city of license, Fort Dodge, in way north compared to the other stations in Des Moines. The station was owned by Krueger Broadcasting as part of a duopoly with ABC affiliate WDMC-TV. On Jan. 25, 2016, Krueger Broadcasting sold the station to Evans Communications. On June 3, 2016, Journal Media (the owner of KDES) boosted KDES' signal to the point where it would cover all of the Ames/Des Moines market, including Fort Dodge. As a result, KVFD announced that they would leave NBC. On Aug. 1, KDES was broadcasting in Fort Dodge, and KVFD left NBC to join MyTV. On May 17, 2017, KVFD was sold to Gannett Communications.
