New York Public Broadcasting is the public broadcasting state network in New York. It is owned by the New York Authority for Educational Television, an agency of the New York state government that holds the licenses for all of the PBS and NPR member stations in the state.
History[]
The New York Public Broadcasting was launched on Nov. 10, 1954, and immediately became an affiliate of the National Educational Television (NET). The first station to sign on was WNYPB in New York City, NY. By 1960, about 3 more stations signed on and joined New York Public Broadcasting. In 1970, the network became a part of Public Broadcasting Services following the closure of NET. By 1977, all 11 stations signed on.
