WDCD is the NBC affiliate that serves the Washington D.C. area. It broadcasts on channel 3.

Station History

WDCD signed on the air back on November 28th, 1947 as Washington D.C.'s first television station. WDCD signed on as an NBC affiliate and with the call letters, WASH. (Washington D.C.) WASH kept the original call letters going until 1960 when they were changed to the current call sign, WDCD. In Late 2004, WDCD added NBC Weather Plus , an over the air subchannel on most NBC affiliates airing live weather information, on subchannel 3.2. This was replaced in Late 2008 when NBC Weather Plus shut down and replaced with NBC Plus , a stripped down version of the original NBC Weather Plus , excluding on-screen meteorologists. This format kept going until Fall 2010 when it was replaced by NBC Nonstop, another over the air subchannel airing local news and lifestyle programming. Other NBC O&Os across the country also followed suit with NBC Nonstop. In December 2012, NBC Nonstop shut down and replaced with Cozi TV another over the air subchannel from NBCUniversal airing classic television shows from the NBC library. WDCD is one of NBC's strongest affiliates and has been an NBC affiliate for over 60 years and was not affected by the fictional tv station realignment. On October 20, 2015 NBCUniversal announced it would sale WDCD to BeloOne. On November 29, 2015 NBCUniversal sold WDCD and KFRE in Fresno, CA to BeloOne. It will be traded to NBCUniversal for KNUJ in Amarillo, TX. It will be approved 12-29-15. It is now owned by NBCUniversal.
