WEON is a Fox-affiliated television station serving the Saint Thomas and Frederiksted areas of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The station is owned by Dorado Media.

History

The LKK Group decided to launch WEON in 2005 after getting their license from the FCC. WEON didn't had any newscasts at all, and had trouble getting viewers in from the start. Broadcasting on channel 60, not too many people in Saint Thomas have access to cable, meaning that WEON would be handicapped from the start. Also the fact that they didn't had any local programming. Basically, their schedule is just running FOX programming while the rest of their schedule is filled with paid-programming. After a while, the LKK Group decided to shut down the station. Rather than seeing the station shut down, and after success of turning WFIG around when they bought the station in 1991, Island Television stepped up and bought the station in 2011. Just like what they did with WFIG, Island Television divest heavily into WEON. In 2012, WEON launched their own prime-time newscast (Today's 4 Action News on FOX U.S. Virgin Islands). On Jan. 30, 2016, it was announced that Island Television, as well as Higgins Broadcasting, and Oakhurst Broadcasting, were merging into Adelphia Communications. So Island Television had to sell the station, and the station was sold to Chestnut Broadcasting.
