Hurricane Hermine[]

NEWS 32 provided coverage of Hurricane Hermine 4 hours before its initial landfall. It first aired a side-by-side graphic of the bulletin while showing the National Hurricane Center's projected path of Hermine. Florida has never been hit by a hurricane since 2005 with Hurricane Katrina which NEWS 32 provided award winning coverage and was awarded the ABN Seal of Excellence in 2006. While Hermine was aiming at Florida, NEWS 32 went into full hurricane coverage two hours later and stayed in continual coverage for 10 hours. There was one recorded fatality during Hermine's strike on the Southeast United States. "Hermine is not a Katrina by any means, but is still a hurricane to be very aware and vigilant of as it swings its way nearby where we are." says WORM NEWS 32 Chief Meteorologist John Hughes. "While it may not pack a category 4 type punch like Andrew back in 1992 or Hugo in 1989, especially Katrina back in 2005, a hurricane is still a hurricane no matter its size and strength and numbers can be quite deceiving at times. You have the primary objective to pack it up and get out of its way. If you choose not to leave and you get hit by this storm, there is not a whole lot we can do afterward." Hughes explains further.
