History[]

WQNY-TV first went on air on October 15, 1954, as an independent station. Originally known as WNY-TV, it quickly gained recognition for its high-quality programming and commitment to delivering news, entertainment, and cultural content to the New York City audience. Over the years, it became a beloved source of local and national news, as well as popular entertainment shows.

In 2015, a major change occurred when the station was acquired by QTV, a prominent media company seeking to expand its reach. As part of the acquisition, the station underwent a rebranding and changed its call letters to WQNY-TV. The new ownership brought fresh perspectives and innovative programming ideas to the station, further enhancing its reputation in the industry.

Under QTV's ownership, WQNY-TV thrived as a QTV owned-and-operated affiliate, attracting a loyal viewership and consistently delivering top-rated shows. It continued to serve as a trusted source of news, while also showcasing a diverse range of original content, including dramas, comedies, and reality shows. The station played a crucial role in shaping the media landscape of New York City, influencing the tastes and preferences of viewers across the region.

However, in 2017, a significant ownership change took place when QTV decided to refocus its strategic priorities. As a result, the station was sold to XYZ, LLC, a dynamic media company committed to creating compelling content and expanding its network of owned-and-operated affiliates. WQNY-TV seamlessly transitioned into becoming an XYZ-owned and operated affiliate, forging a new chapter in its storied history.

Under XYZ's ownership, WQNY-TV continued to thrive as a premier television station in New York City. The station enjoyed access to an extensive portfolio of programming, including popular shows, live events, and exclusive content from the XYZ network. With its state-of-the-art facilities and a talented team of professionals, WQNY-TV consistently delivered high-quality programming, earning accolades and capturing the hearts of viewers.

Today, WQNY-TV remains a cornerstone of the New York City media landscape, offering a diverse array of engaging content that caters to the interests of its diverse audience. It stands as a testament to the power of television in shaping public opinion, fostering cultural exchange, and entertaining millions of viewers across the city and beyond.
